If you have anything on your agenda for 21 October 2016, now is the time to clear it. Because you won’t want to miss out on your opportunity to attend the 2016 Australian Payroll Conference! And for those of you who aren’t locals, this applies to you even more so. You have now found the perfect excuse to start planning your Melbourne getaway…err, ‘business trip’.
This year’s conference is to be held across two rooms at the Melbourne Conference and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), in Southbank. (Don’t be surprised though when asking for directions, if the locals refer to MCEC as ‘Jeff’s Shed’ – the nickname is commonly used and is a reference to the Victorian premier at the time it was built.) Throughout most of the day there will be two speakers presenting on different topics at any time, allowing you to pick and choose the agenda that suits you best. There will also be exhibitors along the path in between.
The range of speakers this year will ensure that there is enough to keep everyone interested. And don’t assume that it will be all dry factual lectures on dull topics – the agenda has incorporated plenty of variety, with the focus being not just on the process, but on the people of payroll as well.
This year’s topics include:
- Andrew Griffiths, best-selling author and global presenter, talking about “Influence and the need to grow a mighty reputation – regardless of what you do for a living”
- “Moving to best practice payroll” will be discussed by George Johnson, Director, PwC
- Bruce Mackenzie from TimeTarget will ask the question “Did a meteorite kill the payrollasaurus?”
- APA’s own Maria Nikoletatos will share her knowledge on “Topical Payroll Technical Topics”
- Kate Christie, director of ‘Time Stylers’, will reveal her tips to “Smart Time Management at Work”
- “Single Touch Payroll – Bringing Payroll and Compliance into the Digital Realm” – this highly relevant topic will be presented by Angela Lehmann of ADP & ATO
- Tracy Angwin, APA CEO, will top the day off with her presentation on “Maximising the Profile and Potential of Payroll”
Transport to the MCEC couldn’t be easier, with 3 separate tram lines passing right past the front door. And for those travelling from the CBD area, the trip will even be free for you if you get off one stop early, while the tram is still in the Free Tram Zone. For the extra 2-3 minute walk (excluding selfie stops), you get the added bonus of scenic views of Melbourne in both directions while you are crossing over the Yarra River.
And last but not least, there will be plenty of good food and coffee! Grab a latte and a cupcake (or 2), then take a stroll amongst the attendees to make the most of the great networking opportunities available on the day. Perhaps you’ll find an unexpected friend in the crowd that you can pop into the LinkedIn photo booth with and take a silly snap or two as a fun reminder of the day.
